Phranakorn stays down home with In Country Melody 2

As a counterpoint to the booming hip-hop, violent action and international aspirations of Jija Raging Phoenix, cornpone purveyors Phranakorn Film are aiming squarely at the domestic Thai market with their own movie coming out tomorrow for the Queen's birthday/Mother's Day holiday.

It's E-Som Somwang Cha Cha Cha (อีส้มสมหวัง ชะชะช่า or In Country Melody 2), a follow-up to the 2007 musical-comedy hit about a country couple.

Here, Somwang (Pitisak Yaowanan) has dreams of becoming a singing superstar and is bedazzled by Bangkok, leaving behind his sweetheart Som ("Kob" Suvanant Kongying).

There's the usual country comedians -- among them Kom Chanchuen, Note Chernyim and even Mum Jokmok, making a cameo in exchange for a beer or two.

Goofy sound effects and bawdy slapstick ensues as Kom buries his forehead in a woman's cleavage, and then said cleavage is poked, prodded and argued over.

Fun times, with lots of song-and-dance with sequined white tuxedoes and feather-bedecked dancers. It's like a Bollywood musical, only with luk thung.

It's directed by Jitsin Phonginsee, who I'm assuming is the son of Bumrur Phonginsee, better known as Note Chernyim.

The trailer is at YouTube and I've embedded it below.
